We lost a GIANT with the passing of IBCA HOF'er Steve Tucker. Steve was a pioneer & major force in media coverage for girl's & women's basketball. He more than anybody made sure the girls got the coverage they deserved. Steve was the Sun-Times prep sports editor from 1994-2011.

The last year of the 2-class system, Breese Central won the Class A State Girls' Championship. Coach Nathan Rueter led his team to a 30-4 record. Breese Central won their last 14 games & defeated Rochester 47-41 in the state title game.

Congratulations to Thom Sigel on receiving the prestigious Ron & Rich Herrin Award. In 1999, Thom's Rock Falls Team won the Class A State Championship. He also guided his 2011 Rock Island Team to the Class 3A State Title. If you look up the word "Class" you will see Thom's name.

Illinois Basketball Fact: Though basketball was born in Springfield, Massachusetts, it was adopted & raised in Chicago. Fifteen months after basketball was invented a basketball league was formed in Chicago by a group of YMCA teams.
